When should MI-BCI feature optimization include prior knowledge, and which one?

چکیده
Motor imagery-based brain–computer interfaces (MI-BCIs) rely on interactions between humans and machines. The (learning) characteristics of both components are key to understand improve performances. Data-driven methods often used select/extract features with very little neurophysiological prior. Should they include prior knowledge which one? We study the relationship MI-BCI performances a commonly subject-specific Most Discriminant Frequency Band (MDFB). Our results showed correlation selected MDFB (mean width) While causal link could not be determined, online obtained using constrained algorithm --enforcing associated high performances– seemed higher than an unconstrained algorithm. Finally, we machine learning 1) predict from 2) select automatically optimal This way, for subjects either clearly distinct or no EEG patterns.

MI image registration using prior knowledge
Subtraction of aligned images is a means to assess changes in a wide variety of clinical applications. In this paper we explore the information theoretical origin of Mutual Information (MI), which is based on Shannon's entropy. However, the interpretation of standard MI registration as a communication channel suggests that MI is too restrictive a criterion. In this paper the concept of Mutual I...
متن کاملWhich Cubic Spline should One Use?
The aim of this paper is to provide a quantitative comparison of eight different 0 1 and 0 2 cubic spline interpolation schemes. The 0 1 schemes discussed are local while the 0 2 ones are global. In practice cubic splines are often used when the smoothness of the function being interpolated/approximated is unknown. Also it is often necessary, or advantageous, to use a nonuniform mesh. Therefore...
متن کاملTransferring Knowledge by Prior Feature Sampling
The paper presents a novel method for transfer learning through prior variable sampling. A set of problems defined in the same feature space with similar dependencies of target on features is considered. We suggest a method for learning a decision tree ensemble on each of the problems by prior estimation of variable importance on other problems in the set and using it for regularizing model lea...
متن کاملVentricular assist device selection: which one and when?
Advances in mechanical circulatory support have significantly expanded the treatment options for patients with heart failure, whether acute or chronic. There are numerous devices available that offer patients short-, intermediate-, and long-term duration of support depending on their clinical needs and cardiac recovery. Each device has its own technical considerations and the decision which dev...
متن کاملStent for Crohn’s disease strictures: Which one and when?
The Crohn's disease (CD) perforating phenotype (fistula–abscess) is almost always associated with strictures and is one of the main complications of the disease, present in nearly 60% of patients who have the strictures [1,2]. These perforating forms are the first indication for surgical treatment, which in most cases is ileocolonic resection [3,4]. The stricture phenotype alone, without associ...
